Petra and the Desert Fortresses (2008)

10 days £1800 per person Next Tour: 02 October 2008 - 11 October 2008
Highlights

The geology of Jordan is unforgettable – the colours of the rock and the drama of the gorges of wadi beds mean the ancient cities here assume even more grandeur:

·    Two days in Petra – nothing can prepare you for its impact

·    Floating in the Dead Sea – the lowest place on Earth

·    The mighty ruins of the Kerak crusader castle

·    Stand as Moses did, looking out over the promised land...

"I had no idea the Jordan visit would be so interesting. The tour was substantially above all expectations."
 ...

The scale and workmanship of Petra's monuments and the remarkable nature of  site itself are something one can only grasp by visiting the ancient city. Our tour offers you two full days to explore and discover one of the most exciting archaeological sites on earth.

As this region has always offered the best passable route between the Phoenician ports and the great cities to the north and Arabia to the south, control over trade brought great wealth to those who lived here. Petra is a lasting monument to this period of affluence.

The majesty of the geology surrounding our destinations only adds to their atmosphere - whether we are visiting Petra, the colonnaded streets of Jerash, the church on Mount Nebo, the mosaic map at Madaba or the painted baths in the desert at Amra.

The dramatic landscapes are those of the Bible stories - Mount Nebo, where Moses looked down upon the Promised Land; Lot’s cave, where he lived with his daughters after his wife had been turned to salt, and where a church was built in the 6th century to mark the spot; and Gadara (Umm Qais), home of the infamous swine.
