Guests Comments

We really appreciate the detailed replies that so many of our guests send after their holidays, safe in the knowledge that if there are improvements to be made we will make them.  Our Travellers also know how encouraging it is for all of us hard-working folk back in the office to know that those extra phone calls, that new idea which took so long to put into practice; such things were worth the effort.

Our attention to detail has given them a really wonderful holiday.

Here are some of our favourite guests’ comments from the past year:

Andante Travels

“’The Guide Lecturer was absolutely outstanding - great lectures that will keep us thinking about the sites for a very long time to come. His manner was so engaging. We will never forget his discussion of how to look at a Greek vase - and the Tour Manager was so charming -and efficient. There was not a single hitch on the entire trip; she was just a perfect manager.  Thank you for a wonderful, wonderful experience; it was a trip of a lifetime.”

So many wonderful places! Paestum was breath-taking, both for the temples, the lovely setting and the fine tomb paintings in the Museum.  Herculaneum brought home the horror of the eruption - the huge depth to which it had been buried so visible.  The wall paintings in Oplontis were splendid. Each day in the week brought new delights.

“I cannot fault the tour in any way.  All the Andante staff both in England and on the tour were excellent….every effort was made to ensure that we got the most out of each place, from the excellent field notes, time spent there, Professor King’s erudite and engaging delivery of information and the obvious relationship built up between the locals and the company.”

“We want to let you know now how magnificent the Peloponnese tour was. Every aspect of the tour was brilliant, and we will certainly look forward to taking more Andante trips.”

“There were so many things to enjoy that it is difficult to pick one out.  I have always wanted to go to Peru as I had heard about it from my father when I was a young child.  I loved Cusco and Lake Titicaca. The visits to Machu Picchu were wonderful.”

“I continue to be amazed by the efficiency of Andante: everything looked after.  No other company can match Andante.”

“I knew very little about Minoan civilisation so the whole thing was fascinating.  I loved walking to the sites and enjoying the scenery and flowers ‘en route’.  The Hotel was in a lovely situation and we had some very enjoyable mealtimes and good laughter with everyone.”

Bare Bones Tours

“Very good.  Bare Bones give us flexibility, less group structure and good value for money.”

 (BB Jordan 07)

“The Bare Bones format gave just the right balance of organised and free time.  I enjoyed having some time to myself and the freedom to eat out where I chose, but it was also good to have the option of eating with the group in the evenings.”

“The tour gives a real flavour of Roman North Africa; made even more tangible by our Lecturer.  The moment I stepped into the amphitheatre from the circus – through a tunnel, will be something I’ll never forget.  I felt just like a gladiator”

(BB Libya 07)

“Quite wonderful…Every day seemed better than the last.  It was such magic to see these wonderful places with no crowds.”

(BB Libya 07)

“Pompeii – absolutely fantastic and so much better with an expert guide, although I did enjoy going back and seeing it again by myself on the last day.”

(BB Pompeii 07)

“Well organised. Memorable locations. Excellent guides. I was worried about the tour because I had not been on an archaeological trip before. I was pleasantly surprised how welcome and included I felt, and found the whole holiday very relaxing.”

(BB Troy 07)

“I loved walking the streets of Pompeii.  Finding the water reservoir from which water flowed throughout Pompeii, one of the water towers and lead pipes conveying the water to some of the most luxurious villas, made me feel life continued there.  I also enjoyed the lack of hype throughout.”

(BB Pompeii 07)

“My favourite part of this trip was being able to wander about the oldest part of Split, tracing the Roman amongst the later structures and street patterns.”

(BB Split 07)

“I most enjoyed the visit to Troy. One can read as much as one wishes about a site but there is no substitute for being there.”
