What is Bare Bones?

Bare Bones Tours take adventurous, inquisitive, lively people of all ages to visit the most exciting archaeological sites in the world.  Travel with a specialist guide who will bring it all to life, and use the free time structured into our itineraries to explore as you wish.

*ADVENTURE

Some tours include activities such as trekking the beautiful Samaria Gorge in Crete or a night’s camping in Jordan.  Sometimes we travel by 4x4s or by boat.  All of the Bare Bones Tours require reasonable levels of fitness and stamina to enjoy the real adventure of archaeology.

*INDEPENDENT

Bare Bones Tours are created for more independent travellers who don’t want to spend all their time in a group – but appreciate the company of others some of the time.  Individuals, couples, groups of friends and families are all very welcome.

*ACCESSIBLE EXPERT ARCHAEOLOGY

Our specialist guides can bring even the oldest, driest and dustiest sites to life for anyone with an interest in the ancient world (archaeology enthusiast or professional, complete beginner, adult or child alike).  They are also fun and friendly people who will be pleasant travelling companions.

*FREE TIME TO EXPLORE

Bare Bones Tours include free time, so that you can holiday the way you wish (whether you wish to explore further archaeological sites, shop ‘til you drop, head to the beach, or try something completely different – the choice is yours) you can fit in other activities to make this your perfect trip!

*GOOD VALUE

We arrange flights from London (or you can organise your own if you prefer), comfortable and conveniently located hotels and transport to the sites (sometimes by public transport), so you can relax and enjoy your holiday.  Wherever possible we leave you free to choose where and what you eat to suit your tastes and budget.

*FAMILY FRIENDLY

Some tours are in school and college holidays.  Although our tours are unsuitable for very young children, families with interested children (aged 9 or 10 upwards) are very welcome to join the adventure.
