Join Prof. Suzannah Lipscomb at Hampton Court

If you're looking for a unique day out this spring, why not treat yourself to a place on our best-selling Henry VIII at Hampton Court study day, led by the inimitable Prof. Suzannah Lipscomb.

There are multiple departures of this exciting day on offer for 2022, but if you're ready to go you can join us on 1st April to delve into the life of King Henry VIII and the stories of his final four wives. Suzannah is a former research curator of Hampton Court Palace and has published numerous books on this much discussed monarch along with the Tudor period, so there's no better expert to guide you around this stunning historic site.

During the course of this day, we will examine the architecture and visit both the kitchens (pictured below) and state apartments to look at the nature of Henry VIII's court and how the palace functioned. We’ll trace the stories of his last four wives through their associations with the palace, such as the place where Jane Seymour gave birth to the long-awaited heir, the Council Chamber where the marriage treaty to Anne of Cleves was signed, the chapel where Henry learnt of Katherine Howard’s infidelity, and finally the place where Henry married his last queen, Kateryn Parr.

This memorable day out includes lunch along with entry to Hampton Court, and it begins at this stunning site at 9.45am. The Study Day comes to an end at 3.30pm, after which you will have free time to explore at leisure.

Feedback for this Study Day is always fantastic, with the following quote shared by a guest who enjoyed it in October '21:

"Just a personal note to say many thanks for all your organising of the recent visit to Hampton Court Palace with Suzannah Lipscomb. It really was much appreciated and I know how challenging it must have been with all the date changes due to lockdown. The tour and Suzannah were brilliant. She is such an effortless and knowledgeable person and very down-to-earth and clear in her talk. Many thanks again and I look forward to my next trip in 2022."

Suzannah is an award-winning historian, author, and broadcaster. She is Professor Emerita of History at the University of Roehampton, a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, and a columnist for History Today. You can read more about her on our website by clicking here
