Itinerary 2019

Day 1

We catch our outbound flight from London to the city of Munich. Lunch will be independent and upon our arrival, we transfer to our hotel for check-in. In the evening, we will have dinner at a local restaurant in Munich, which is the perfect opportunity to get to know each other and also to experience our first taste of German cuisine.

Day 2

This morning, we pay a visit to the sumptuous Munich Residenz, which is the former home of the Bavarian Wittelsbach monarchs located within  the heart of the city. Here, we enjoy a guided tour that takes in the Cuvilliés Theatre and will also allow us to take some free time for independent exploration. We take a break for lunch and in the afternoon, there will be a very exclusive opportunity to meet the people who work behind-the-scenes at the National Theatre, located in the Max-Joseph-Platz. This is a privileged encounter and one that many visitors will not get the chance to enjoy. This venue is home to the Bavarian State Opera, Ballet and Orchestra, and later we experience an inspiring musical performance - Salome by Richard Strauss, at the National Opera House in Munich.

Day 3

Today, we depart from Munich and take a picturesque drive into the mountains to visit Ludwig II’s fairytale palace, Neuschwanstein Castle. This is a world famous Romanesque revival palace, which rises dramatically from a rugged hill in southwest Bavaria, and we are lucky enough to witness its unrivalled beauty in person. In the afternoon, after a stop for lunch at Hohenschwangau, we make our return to Munich. Dinner this evening will be at a local restaurant and we can then spend the remainder of the evening as we wish, either enjoying the hotel’s facilities or simply relaxing ahead of another great day tomorrow.

Day 4

Our day begins this morning with a short walk to the Munich Stadtmuseum, where we are invited to take a private tour. This museum is unique as it houses a vast collection of musical instruments as well as playing host to a special on-site sound laboratory. Following a break for a light lunch at the museum’s café, we make our way back to the city centre this afternoon for some free time. Tonight, we sit down to a group dinner and then we are treated to another live performance afterwards - Concert at the Cuvillies Theatre, at the Residenz Palace.

Day 5

On this final full day of our German adventure, we depart for Nymphenburg Palace. This 17th century Baroque palace was the summer residence of Bavarian rulers and boasts beautiful Italianate gardens. We have ample time to explore here before stopping for lunch at the museum and our mid-afternoon return to Munich. In the early evening, we will enjoy the final performance of our tour - Turandot by Puccini, at the National Opera House in Munich.

Day 6

Our departure day is sadly here, but first we get some more free time to spend in beautiful Munich. After an independent lunch, we head to the airport for our return flight back home.
