Itinerary 2019

Day 1

This morning, we meet at our London airport and check in for our flight to Bucharest, Romania’s capital and commercial hub. Upon our arrival, we make our way to the hotel and have time to settle in. Our dinner this evening will be enjoyed at our hotel and we shall be entertained by a special guest singer, who will give us a fantastic cultural introduction to the wonderful country of Romania.

Day 2

Our first full day on this tour gets off to an interesting start with an introductory lecture, when we discover more about the history and culture of this city as well as its surrounding areas. Next, we depart on foot for a walking tour of central Bucharest, allowing us to discover the sights and see the many examples of striking, traditional architecture. In the afternoon, we return to our hotel and also have our evening meal here later on.
Following dinner, we make our way to the Grand Palace Hall which was built in the mid-20th century. Here we enjoy our first stage performance of this trip.

Day 3

Today we visit the Museum of the Romanian Peasant, which is home to vast collections of ceramics and artefacts that demonstrate every day Romanian peasant life. After our visit here, we drive to the George Enescu Museum, a palace that now houses exhibits celebrating this fantastic musician’s life. Lunch will be back in the city and, in the afternoon, we travel to the Romanian Athenaeum, where we will enjoy a recital. This beautiful concert hall was opened back in 1888 and is considered to be a real landmark of the capital. It also listed as a Label of European Heritage sites. For dinner, we will indulge in regional fare at a local restaurant and then return to our hotel for the night.

Day 4

We take a drive to Sinaia, around two and a half hours away. When we arrive, we pay a visit to the Enescu Memorial House. This is an interesting place to explore because Romania’s Queen Elisabeth, who was a lover of the arts, admired his work so much that she made a space in this building for him to create in. We enjoy a private recital here and then have lunch at a nearby restaurant, accompanied by folk dancing. After a stroll around Sinaia, we return to Bucharest.

Day 5

A morning at leisure awaits us today and we can use our free time to explore Bucharest independently, perhaps browse local shops for souvenirs or just unwind with a drink and snack at many of the great bars and cafés in the city. After a late lunch in the city centre, we head to the Bucharest National Opera, where we are treated to a performance. In the evening, there will be a light buffet and farewell drinks, allowing us to toast this wonderful holiday.

Day 6

In the morning, we depart for the airport and check in for our flight back to London. We can have lunch independently at the airport before flying home, where we bid a fond farewell to our new friends.
