Itinerary 2019

Day 1

We depart from London St. Pancras for Brussels and upon arrival, we transfer to our hotel situated in the city centre. We have some free time to relax before taking an early evening short walk around the city, where we can catch our first glimpse of its grand architecture and historic sights. Brussels is also the location of many national institutions, including the Royal Palace and the Royal Belgian Mint. Tonight, we will enjoy our first dinner as a group at a local restaurant, allowing us to get to know each other better.

Day 2

After an enlightening morning talk from our expert guide, we leave on foot for the Oldmasters Museum. Upon arrival, we are treated to a very special presentation on the Unseen Works of Bruegel. We stop for a light lunch and later we will enjoy a walking tour of the beautiful Grand Place, a square that boasts impressive architecture and a variety of opulent buildings of historic significance. Dinner later this evening will be enjoyed
in a local restaurant where delicious and traditional Belgian fare can be sampled.

Day 3

This morning, we depart for the city of Antwerp. Upon our arrival here, we pay a visit to the Mayer Van den Bergh museum to see more marvellous Bruegel paintings. Following lunch, we make our way to Rubens House, which is home to the artist’s former studio and also his private quarters - both are open for us to explore during our tour. Later on, we drive to Mechelen for our tour of the Mad Art Museum. Here, we spend time admiring the works and trying to decode the mysterious symbolism that has been immortalised on canvas. Afterwards, we drive back to Brussels and enjoy group dinner at a local eatery.

Day 4

This morning, we journey to the charming city of Bruges. Cobbled streets lined with local shops selling chocolate and lace await, and when we arrive we visit the Groeningemuseum. This museum offers a fascinating look at the history of Belgian art. Our lunch will be at the Halve Maan brewery and later we take a walk around the Hanseatic Quarter. Our afternoon highlight will be a boat trip along Bruges’ beautiful canals and we return to Brussels for dinner.

Day 5

Today, we leave Brussels for Ghent. After we arrive, we are treated to a private tour of the restoration of Van Eyck’s masterpiece, which is proudly displayed in Ghent Museum. Following the viewing, we will have some free time to explore the museum’s fantastic collections before stopping for lunch. In the afternoon, we travel to Leuven and visit the treasury at St. Peter’s to see paintings by Dieric Bouts. We return to Brussels later on and enjoy a final evening meal together as a group.

Day 6
