Berlin has been the nexus for so many pivotal moments in European history, and bears traces of those times to whoever is willing to see them. With an engaging guide on hand to show you the way, you will find the legacy of its history endlessly intriguing. Our 5-day tour offers a fascinating flavour of the region’s past and present: from its Royal Prussian palaces, to its place in Nazi fantasies, and its role as a hub of both socialist cultures and radical countercultures. From the Ishtar Gate, world-changing treaties, to secret escape tunnels and culminating in the vibrant city of today - just a taster of what we have in store. We will introduce you to this multi-faceted culture while allowing you to experience one of Europe’s most dynamic cities.

Itinerary 2020

Day 1

In the early evening we walk around the heart of Prussian Berlin, as well as the Memorial at Bebelplatz, commemorating the 22,000 books that were burned by the Nazis in 1933.

Day 2

We spend the morning at Museum Island, where we explore innumerable treasures, including the reconstruction of the Ishtar Gate, the Babylonian Processional Way at the Pergamon Museum, and the famous bust of Nefertiti at the Neues Museum. The afternoon is free to explore the city further or tour its museums.

Day 3

We spend the day in Potsdam where we visit Sanssouci, Frederick the Great’s Rococo summer palace, famed for its park and waterworks. Next, we venture to Cecilienhof, the Hohenzollern royal palace, which was the site of the Postsdam conference at the end of WW2.

Day 4

We journey to Wittenberg today to visit a number of World Heritage Sites associated with Luther. These include the Lutherhaus and the Castle Church, where he allegedly nailed his 95 theses to the door. We also visit the houses of other figures of the Reformation, including Melanchthon and the painter, Cranach.

Day 5

This morning, we explore Berlin’s famous sites, including the Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate and Checkpoint Charlie. Our tour ends in the afternoon.
