Bare Bones Venice
Venice’s maritime republic, which spanned almost 1,000 years, has given us a staggering collection of art, architecture and history, in a truly evocative setting. On this 5-day tour, we travel on foot and by boat to the city’s best destinations, many of them world-renowned, others lesser known – from the evocative streets of Europe’s oldest Jewish ghetto, to a private evening tour of the Basilica of San Marco, and so much more besides, in the company of your expert guide, including the Arsenale Shipyard and Murano’s unique glass tradition. This trip also offers daily opportunities to wander the city unguided, with plenty of time free to follow your interest wherever it may lead.

We check-in to our hotel and then enjoy a walking tour of Piazza San Marco.
Our day starts with an in-depth visit to the Doge’s Palace, including the Secret Itineraries and the Bridge of Sighs. We continue with a visit to the staggering Basilica of San Marco, including the Pala D’Oro and the museum.
We venture to the little-known and fascinating Casino Venier, as well as to the Fondaco dei Tedeschi. Next we explore the Rialto, before taking in the Basilicas of the Frari and Giovanni e Paolo. Finally, we end our day with a visit to the exquisite Church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli.
Exploring Canareggio, we visit the Church of Madonna dell’Orto and have a break at the famous café, Al Timon Bragozzo. We continue to the infamous Ghetto before ending our morning at the stunning Ca D’Oro. Enjoy some free time in the city this afternoon, perhaps choose to visit the Accademia or the Guggenheim collection.
Not far from St. Mark’s – and off the beaten track – we visit the Chiesa di San Giorgio dei Greci and the Icon Museum, as well as Vivaldi’s Church of San Giovanni in Bragora. Look out for the remnants of the Chiesa della Pietà, where he taught orphan girls. We end the day and our tour with a visit to the Arsenale, Venice’s boatyard.
