The idyllic landscapes of Provence are home to some of Europe’s finest Roman remains. We tell the story of the Romans in Provence as we visit triumphal arches, temples, theatres and aqueducts – all feats of engineering and a clear demonstration of power. Many of these monuments remain remarkably complete from the magnificent amphitheatres at Arles and Nîmes, to the ruins of Glanum – an abandoned Roman town dramatically sited in the hills.

  • See the Pont du Gard with its three-tiered arches, the highest of all Roman aqueducts and the best preserved
  • Enjoy a visit to Nîmes to see its Roman architecture and the newly opened archaeological museum
  • Visit the medieval town of Vaison la Romaine with some of the most significant Roman ruins in France
  • Walk around the magnificent Roman amphitheatre in Arles
