Giuseppe Verdi was one of the rare composers whose genius was fully recognised and appreciated during his lifetime and Parma’s annual Verdi festival celebrates his unique contribution to classical music to this day. In one of Italy’s most beautiful cities, you will discover the story of the composer’s life and explore the town and the surrounding area where Verdi grew up and worked. On this exclusive small-group tour you will also attend two wonderful performances of Verdi’s work, Luisa Miller and Nabucco.

Our special guest for this exclusive trip is the Verdi expert and Classic FM presenter John Suchet. John will join you on day two to spend a day exploring Verdi’s childhood and his early years. John will also give a private talk and take part in an exclusive question and answer session about the composer and join you for that evening’s performance of Luisa Miller.

During this memorable four-day trip, you will visit the house in which Verdi was born, tour the church in which he was baptised and explore museums dedicated to his life  and work. You will also make a pilgrimage to the venue of Verdi’s first performance and visit iconic theatres such as Teatro Regio, built in 1740, and the fascinating wooden theatre Teatro Farnese, as well as having plenty of spare time to stroll and admire Parma’s archtecture and its many attractions. Or just relax in a café and watch the world go by in this beautiful part of Italy.

This is a wonderful tour for opera lovers who want to discover a region brimming with fine music and culture, which will be forever associated with one of the world's greatest operatic composers.

"I am thrilled to be joining opera lovers on a Verdi tour, and revealing some of the little known — and extraordinary — facts behind the best-loved opera composer of them all." John Suchet

After breakfast at the hotel, you will take a fascinating tour of the Teatro Farnese, one of the most renowned examples of a wooden theatre that stands today. Although hugely damaged during the Second World War, the theatre has since been restored and today you can admire the amazing detail of the wooden seating and walls. You will then take a tour of the Toscanini Museum, the house where the great Italian conductor Arturo Toscanini was born. You will explore the number of personal items belonging to the maestro: curios; paintings; announcements; drawings; and photographs. In a specially equipped room, it is possible to listen to some of Toscanini’s most celebrated performances. At the Ristorante Corale Verdi, you will enjoy a traditional lunch.
