Julian Bowsher

Julian Bowsher

Julian Bowsher FSA studied Roman archaeology at University of London and is still a Roman numismatist. But since joining MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology) in the mid 1980s, he has mainly focused on the archaeology and history of the Tudor and Stuart periods.

The discovery and excavation of the Rose playhouse in 1989 was a milestone in ‘Shakespearean archaeology’ and Julian has pioneered its study, bringing together archaeologists, scholars and actors. Julian has published widely and lectured extensively both here and abroad, and appeared on TV and radio, promoting the subject.
