Dr Ilona Bausch
Dr. Ilona Bausch studied Jomon archaeology with professor Tatsuo Kobayashi at Kokugakuin University, read for her PhD at Durham University under the supervision of professor Gina Barnes. Ilona has has lectured at Leiden University, Netherlands and the University of Tokyo. She is researching the earliest use of jade in Japan, China, Korea, East Siberia and is currently working on a book on Jomon ornaments. Another research interest is the history of Japanese collections in European Museums, which were founded on early Western-Japanese interactions from the 17th century onwards. Ilona is fluent in Japanese.
