Nicholas Purcell

Nicholas Purcell is Camden Professor of Ancient History at the University of Oxford, and the holder of numerous chairs and visiting professorships in universities worldwide. He has long been interested in multiple aspects of the Roman world and its history and culture, initially in Italy, but latterly in a far wider regional and global context. He was the co-author of the hugely influential The Corrupting Sea, a study of civilisation and environment around the Mediterranean basin, a work which continues.
