Aisla Mainman

Ailsa Mainman is an archaeologist specialising in the early medieval period and is an Honorary Research Associate at the University of York and at York Archaeological Trust. She worked for many years on the Coppergate project and was previously Assistant Director at the Trust. Ailsa’s research interests include the re-emergence and development of urban life, especially as seen through material culture. She has lived and worked in York for thirty years and recently contributed to the city’s acclaimed Historic Town Atlas publication which charts the city’s history from the Roman to modern period. Working now as a freelance researcher and lecturer she travels widely for work and pleasure.
