Exploring islands of the Cyclades & Dodecanese on a cruise

This tour, starting in Athens, the cradle of Western civilisation, takes you to some of Greece’s most iconic islands, in the wake of countless mythological and historical figures. The Cyclades, circling Delos, lend their name to the Late Neolithic and Early Bronze Age civilisation famous for its surprisingly modern-looking white, smooth-featured sculptures. Delos itself is a remarkable site, where Leto gave birth to Apollo and Artemis. It housed the Treasury which Athens took advantage of to fund the building programme on the Acropolis in the 5th century. In later times, the island was the centre of the Mediterranean slave trade. Our ship also takes us to Kos, where we are reminded that it was the birthplace of Hippocrates as we explore the Sanctuary of Asclepius. Close by, while on Rhodes, we come into contact with the early Middle Ages as we consider the role of the Order of the Knights of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in protecting pilgrims to the Holy Land. Millenia earlier, our visit to Santorini allows us to explore some of the finest Minoan remains outside Crete. This cruise offers you a combination of improbably beautiful islands and a staggering breadth of history which shaped the world we know today.
