
Dr Katie Campbell
Katie is a research fellow in archaeology at King's College, University of Cambridge and is currently researching medieval cities in Central Asia. She worked as a field archaeologist for more than a decade across Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia before writing a doctorate on the Mongol Conquest at Oxford.
Alongside Kazakh colleagues, she is excavating at the site of Otrar in southern Kazakhstan and working with an international team to understand how water and rivers shaped societies and empires in Central Asia.
