Prof. Jean-Luc Houle
Jean-Luc Houle is an associate professor of anthropology (archaeology) in the Department of Folk Studies and Anthropology at Western Kentucky University.
He is an anthropological archaeologist who has been conducting research on the Bronze and Iron Ages of Mongolia for the past 20 years. He has directed several fieldwork projects in central Mongolia and the Altai region of Western Mongolia, and recently started a new project in north-western Mongolia. His research interests focus on the social and ritual construction of landscapes among mobile pastoralists, and how all this relates to the development of complex societies in Inner Asia. His projects also include a significant ethnoarchaeological component aimed at a better understanding human-animal relationships and the relationship between humans and their environment, both in the past and present.
