Dr Tertia Barnett is an archaeologist specialising in the rock art of Britain, Europe and North Africa. She currently runs a research project exploring Neolithic rock carvings in Scotland, based at Historic Environment Scotland, and is also an Honorary Fellow at Edinburgh University.

What first sparked your passion for archaeology?

Visiting the Minoan Palaces and Heraklion Museum in Crete as a teenager.

What does archaeology mean to you?

The excitement and fascination of unraveling how people have used and shaped the landscape over time.

What is the most interesting experience you have had leading an Andante tour?

Discovering unrecorded prehistoric rock engravings close to the Moroccan-Algerian border with the guests on the Moroccan rock art tour.

What is your favourite archaeological site?

Nuraghe Santu Antine in Sardinia.

How many tours have you led for Andante?

I have been leading six different tours for Andante for the last 20 years, with an average of about two tours and one study day each year.
