Orkney & the Ness of Brodgar

From:£2,695

Summary

Last chance to see the Ness site while excavation is still in progress

The dramatic strip of land between the lochs of Harray and Stenness on Orkney is known as the Ness and is home to four of the most important Neolithic sites in Western Europe. The Stones of Stennes, Ring of Brodgar, Maeshowe and Skara Brae make up the UNESCO listed ‘Heart of Neolithic Orkney’ sites, and they are an absolute must see for anyone interested in archaeology. However, since 2003, these famous monuments are not the only draw to this remarkable part of the island.

Since the initial discovery of a huge stone slab unearthed by farmer’s plough two decades ago, seasonal excavations have been uncovering a massive complex of Neolithic buildings with more than 30 stone structures. The wealth of information emerging from this site is astonishing. If you want to see the Ness site while excavation is still in progress, this summer is your last chance. Join us on this tour this June which includes a guided visit led by Site Director, Nick Card and hear all about the latest finds.
