The Veneto at New Year

Strategically positioned at the crossroads of major Alpine routes, the Veneto is?a diverse region in northeastern Italy, bordering Austria, an area which flourished under Roman, medieval, and Venetian rule, leaving a fabulous architectural and cultural legacy. Our programme encompasses the remarkable treasures of the Veneto, venturing from Verona's superbly preserved Roman amphitheatre and elegant Romanesque churches to three complementary centres of exceptional interest. In Padua, we shall examine Giotto's revolutionary frescoes in the Cappella degli Scrovegni, which fundamentally altered the course of Western art. At Sirmione, perched on its dramatic peninsula extending into Lake Garda, we explore the extensive Roman villa known as the Grottoes of Catullus and the imposing medieval Scaliger fortress. Vicenza presents Palladio's architectural genius at its most refined, the city serving as an eloquent testament to the principles that would influence building design across Europe and beyond.
